The whole waistcoat, start to finish.

A waistcoat is two crafts: drafting the pattern, and making the garment. This bundle teaches both, in order, so you take a waistcoat from a blank sheet of pattern paper to a finished garment. Bought together they cost less than bought apart.

By the end, you will have made a waistcoat by hand, from your own pattern.

  • Draft waistcoat patterns in a range of styles: single breasted V-neck and flat front, notch lapel, skeleton back, and double breasted with peak and shawl lapels

  • Make the waistcoat by hand, from canvas through to pressing and sewing on the buttons

  • Work three styles in the making: a double breasted shawl lapel, a single breasted notch lapel, and a single breasted V-neck

  • Understand why each step is done as it is, so you can make as many waistcoats as you like, in any cloth

You are learning from the man, not a platform.

Andrew Ramroop OBE has cut, made and fitted bespoke suits for over fifty years. He owns Maurice Sedwell on Savile Row and was the first Black tailor to own a house on the Row. Every step in both courses is his method, filmed and explained by him. Free tutorials show you a technique with no one behind it. A marketplace course is made by whoever signed up to sell it. This is one master's method, taught in sequence.

Two courses, drafting to finish.

Waistcoat Pattern Drafting — draft the pattern in a range of styles: single breasted V-neck and flat front, notch lapel, skeleton back, and double breasted with peak and shawl lapels, plus waistcoat inlays and the full-scale draft. Printable instructions included.

Waistcoat Making — make the waistcoat by hand, from canvassing through to pressing and sewing on the buttons, in three styles. 13.5 hours. The making assumes the waistcoat is already cut.

All filmed and explained by Andrew.

“The Savile Row Bespoke Academy online tailoring course has far exceeded my expectations. The depth of knowledge I acquired while studying is astonishing. This course not only equipped me with the technical skills necessary for bespoke tailoring but also touched on the rich history, intricate techniques, and nuances of the craft of sartorial tailoring.”

Valdone - Scotland

“The ARTS online course gave me access to a wealth of knowledge that I haven't found curated so well anywhere else. The platform is very user friendly because the course content is organised neatly into modules and topics which makes it easy to follow and track your progress. I particularly enjoyed the hand sewing module and came to appreciate hand craft tailoring as a very relaxing and calming exercise once I mastered the needle and thimble action.”

Timothy - Uganda

“I’m so happy to have spent the past couple of years working my way through this course under the watchful eye of Prof Ramroop. He has a fascinating background and extensive experience, which he is more than happy to share and he encourages me to ask as many questions about all aspects of tailoring (the practice and the business) – he truly is a one of a kind.”

Merridy - Australia

“What i liked the most was to watch Master Ramroop explaining step by step, how to finish and to perfect a garment. Each of the videos had its own sense and important points, to become a real master of the trade. What stood out the most to me was the ability to rewatch and consolidate the knowledge. I really felt supported by every step i took, by every decision i had to make and guided in questions about the business.”

Christoph - Germany

FAQs

  • Do I need any experience to start?

No. The bundle includes the drafting, so it begins at the pattern and takes you through to a finished garment.

  • Why buy the bundle rather than the two courses separately?

Because it costs less, and the two belong together: you cut the pattern, then make the garment from it.

  • How long do I have access?

    For life.

  • Is it live, or recorded?

Recorded, so you learn at your own pace. Every step is filmed and explained by Andrew.
